COMPARATIVE STUDY ON PRODUCTIVE AND REPRODUCTIVE PERFORMANCE OF LOCAL AND DIFFERENT CROSSBRED DAIRY COWS AT DAULATPUR, KHULNA IN BANGLADESH

The study was conducted at Daulatpur upazila under the district of Khulna, Bangladesh. A total of 33 dairy cows belongs to different breeds, such as Holstein cross, Sindhi cross, Sahiwal cross and Local cows were selected and their information regarding milk production and other reproductive parameters were collected from on farm records for the period of last three years (2006-2008). The numbers of animals of each of the genotypic classes were 14 for Holstein cross, 8 for Sindhi cross, 6 for Sahiwal cross and 5 for Local cows. Significant difference was found within the milk yield (p 0.05) was observed. Highest milk yield (12.03 litre/day), highest birth weight of calves (24.14kg), highest lactation length (295.0 days) and lowest gestation length (282.6 days) were observed for Holstein cross. The lowest milk yield (2.1 litre/day), lowest lactation length (170 days) and lowest birth weight of calves (18.4 kg) were found in Local cows. Production performances of Holstein crossbred were better than that of other dairy crossbreds. Sindhi crossbred ranked second and the performances of other genotypes were nearly similar.
