Acute bacterial endocarditis following mitral valvuloplasty

1955
Abstract This report is believed to be the first published case of acute staphylococcal endocarditis as a complication of surgery for mitral stenosis. Apparent cure followed the administration of huge doses of penicillin, sulfisoxazole, and chloramphenicol over a period of 44 days. Two years after the discontinuance of therapy the patient remains apparently cured.
