Horizontally polarized omni-directional antennas for wireless LAN

2003
The effectiveness in using polarized wave diversity antennas for mobile communication base stations is reported. For example, collinear array antennas of the vertically polarized wave type with omni-directionality are mainly utilized in the base station in wireless LAN. Since the diameter increases generally for this, the antenna, which obtains omni-directionality in the horizontally polarized wave, is disadvantageous in respect of weight and wind pressure load. Though horizontally polarized wave antennas of thin diameter have previously been reported, this paper reports the development of a thin horizontally polarized wave omni-directional antenna with simple structure.
