Post-operative pain after dental surgery: 2 nd Part : Research of predictives factors

2001
SUMMARY Predictive factors involved in post-surgical pain during 3 days after dental extractions were studied. Each surgical procedure was followed by a standardized analgesic administration (level 1 or 2). 132 patients were assigned in 2 groups (no or slight pain and moderate or severe pain) according to their answer to a verbal pain scale. Predictive factors such as: tabacco consumption (OR=5.07, IC=[1.73-14.80], p<0.01), patient workless (OR=3.85, IC=[1.29-11.50], p<0.01), surgical procedure using a flap (OR=4.99, IC=[1.36-18.40], p<0.02), Duke’s scale score (OR=0.29, [0.10-0.83], p<0.02), and home life shared with more than 3 (OR=2.75, IC=[1.057.61], p<0.05) were found using univariate and multivariate analysis by logistic regression ajusted on analgesic prescription. The ROC curve is presented and these results are discussed.
