The invention relates to the preparation of surgical needles strung. An apparatus for attaching a wire to a surgical needle includes a tubular mandrel 28 which can be selectively secured over charged by a coil, a guide 29 that guides the front end of the wire, a feed device 22 which supports the needle such that a hole formed in a rear end thereof is brought to face the front end of the wire, and a locking device 21 having punches 21a, 21b which can be moved to press the rear end of the needle to block the thread in the hole. After being fixed to the needle, the thread is cut obliquely to the desired length by a cutting device 30. Application to surgical equipment.
