Angle and Length Measurements of Microbunches

A simple scheme for beam angle observation, which is based on far‐field, or wavefront, measurement of Cherenkov radiation is proposed. A preliminary proof‐of‐principle experiment is demonstrated and characteristics of the measurement such as angular resolution are discussed. Bunch length measurements of microbunches via coherent transition/diffraction radiation (CTR/CDR) techniques are also investigated. The expected performances of a CTR/CDR spectrometer and interferometer are discussed through numerical calculations.
