New High-Efficiency Red-Emitting Phosphor Produced by the Sol–Gel Method

2014
The sol–gel method was used to obtain high-brightness crystal phosphors from SrTiO3 :P r 3+ producing more than 1800 cd/m 2 . A ten-fold increase in the intensity of the main luminescence spectrum band at = 617 nm by doping SrTiO3 :P r 3+ was achieved by adding a ferric ion coactivator (5·10 –5 mole %). The results indicated a possible mechanism for the enhancement of the Pr 3+ ion luminescence in the presence of the coactivator.
