ELECTRONIC TRAFFIC AIDS ON MAJOR ROADS

The report is presented by the Management Committee of COST 30 bis to the signatories of the Memorandum of Understanding on completion of three years' work with a view to providing recommendations. It briefly describes the international cooperation in the first phase of COS 30, sets out he favorable conclusions and the convincing results of a public demonstration of an existing motorway control system carried out at a site in the Netherlands, and describes continuing research on the following: (i) use of microelectronics for road/vehicle communications; (ii) use of the Citizens' Band in the countries of Europe; (iii) automatic incident detection; (iv) regional radio broadcasing of traffic information; (v) detection of weather condiions; (vi) variable message signs.
