The Line Balancing of a Sewing System.

1983
From the view point of the increased productivity and labour saving by improving of process routing in sewing systems, the program to get a high line efficiency has been developed for grouping of elemental tasks in each work station. Further, the concept of 'helping' in each workstation has been introduced . The determination method of optimal line balancing by using this concept has also been proposed . The utility and feasibility of these program and method have been discussed by applying the program to the practical sewing system. The results are asfollows : (1) In the sewing line of 9 workers under the working condition of 8 hrs/day, one worker has produced 7.6 working wears per day with the line efficiency of 80.7%. By applying the program, one worker has produced 9.3 working wears per day with the line efficiency of 98.7% even in the sewing line of 7 workers .(2) In addition, from the optimization by using 'helping concept', the line efficiency of 99.5% which may be cons idered to be closely complete balance was achieved. This program has also been applied to other various sewing line and assembly of a sewing machine, resulting in the process routing of a very high line efficiency. It is con cluded that this program and method has a utility and feasibility to a practical sewing and assembly system.
