The synchronous machine (6) comprises a superconductive rotor coil, for example, and to be cooled, normally conducting stator winding (11). The stator winding (11) is at least partly in a support structure (14) having a hollow cylindrical, soft-magnetic outer body (13) and axially and radially extending web-like supporting teeth (21i) of non-magnetic material is arranged. An outer housing (15) with hollow cylindrical housing portion (15a) surrounds the outer body (13). It is a cooling of the group consisting of a non-magnetic material housing portion (15a) may be provided at least in partial regions by means of a cooling medium (K), wherein a thermal coupling of the stator winding (11) to the cooling medium (K) on the support structure (14) and the housing part (15a) is carried out.
