In Physics Bulletin (July 1974), Professor Ziman opines that 'what we should now teach our students' is the long rejected Platonic view that the task of the physicist is 'to determine the mathematically comprehensible characteristics of the natural world ...'. The flowery language made me suspect a legpull.
