A Two-Dimensional Model for Steel Corrosion under a Disbonded Coating Due to Oxygen with or without Cathodic Protection—Part 1: Full Numerical Solution

2006
Abstract Two coupled Laplace's equations were solved for a two-dimensional (2D) geometry to simulate active pipeline steel corrosion under a disbonded coating due to dissolved oxygen (O2), with or without cathodic protection (CP). A differential O2 concentration cell is the key that causes this corrosion. The profiles of dissolved O2 concentration, steel potential, and current flow in the disbondment and the effect of CP on the corrosion rate and potential were modeled.
