Futurist Sculpture Boccioni

2015
AbstractWriting in 1914, Roberto Longhi describes sculptures and related drawings by the futurist Umberto Boccioni, and considers his work in the broader context of historical and contemporary artists, including Bernini, Michelangelo, Auguste Rodin, Medardo Rosso and Paul Cezanne. Longhi considers futurism superior to cubism and firmly situates Boccioni in the Italian canon of sculpture. His formal analysis of Boccioni’s work centers on the sculptures that were first exhibited in the Galerie La Boetie in Paris in June-July 1913 and seen by Longhi at the Galleria Futurista in Rome in December of that year.
