Closing the Assessment Feedback Loop in an Undergraduate Nursing Program: A Collaborative Faculty Effort Using Student Portfolios

2011
Wide variation in faculty expectations of APA requirements in teaching their courses and during the review of portfolios, which had a negative impact on the scoring of rubric criterion #5 (student’s writing ability). Faculty discussed and decided to remove APA requirements from portfolio review so that reviewers would be assessing the quality of students writing, rather than how well students used APA format. Faculty reviewers were more consistent in scoring student’s writing ability.
