Morpho-Physiological Traits of Rice Genotypes Under Aerobic Condition

2010
Investigation was carried out to study the physiological traits and yield potential of six rice cultivars viz., PMK 3, ASD 16, MDU 3, MDU 5, CO 47 and RM 96019 under aerobic condition. The morphological characters viz., plant height, total drymatter production and the growth attributes like leaf area index (LAI), crop growth rate (CGR) and R:S ratio were found to be higher in the rice cultivar PMK than other genotypes. The parameters viz., relative water content (RWC), chlorophyll stability index (CSI) and membrane stability index (MSI) were found to be significantly high in PMK 3 and the cultivar CO 47 expressed least performance. Accumulation of proline, an adaptive mechanism under dought, accumulated higher in PMK 3 followed by RM 96019 under aerobic condition. Yield and yield components like number of productive tillers, fertility co-efficient, panicle harvest index, grain weight and harvest index were found to be higher in PMK 3 rice followed by ASD 16 while the cultivar CO 47 recorded lowest grain yield under aerobic condition. The variety PMK 3 performed well under aerobic condition by expressing its supremacy with high RWC, better MSI, high proline accumulation and yield components.
