A SYSTEMATIC REVIEW OF THE INCIDENCE AND RISK FACTORS FOR HEPATITIS E INFECTION IN ROMANIA

2020
The incidence of viral hepatitis E (HEV) has taken shape in European countries, economically developed areas and with a high level of hygiene. For the occurrence of this disease was initially incriminated the consumption of properly unprocessed pork or travels to endemic areas. Over time, other ways of transmission were discovered. The spread of the virus also included Romania. In this context, we aim to analyze data from the literature on the incidence and risk factors for HEV. Recent studies conducted in Romania have shown a seroprevalence between 9.6% and 50% in farms, highlighting a zoonotic transmission. Another study shown that the risk factors associated with HEV infections were previous blood transfusions, immunosuppressive disorders, or hepatitis B virus co-infection. In conclusion, HVE infection remains an undeclared disease, possible due to misdiagnosis, subclinical infection, or co-infection with another hepatitis virus.
