Further investigations on the spectral and structural properties of newly synthesized sulphonamide Schiff bases

1991
Schiff bases derived from sulphonamides have acquired wide interest for their useful applications in biological systems. Thus, their structure in solution is scientifically important [1-5]. Although the work on Schiff bases drew the attention of many workers, it seems that little attention has been paid to the spectral behaviour of those derived from sulphonamides [6, 7]. This letter reports the effect of type and substitutional position of newly prepared sulphonamide Schiff bases on their spectral and structural characteristics. Furthermore, an attempt is made to evaluate in detail their X-ray diffraction patterns for the first time. The sulphonamide was obtained from Aldrich Chemical Company. All other materials used in this work were of pure grade. The ligands were prepared by the method of Diehl and Hach [8]. The sulphonamide-Schiff bases included in the present investigation have the general formulae
