Long-term oral testosterone and liver function. (Letter)

1978
Results of treatment of 10 men without testicular function by administration of 400 mg/day free testosterone in tablet form for 7 1/2 years are reported. Despite the existence of some liver induction with this therapy these doses maintained normal serum testosterone levels and normal sexual performance. 1 patient had a slightly raised serum bilirubin which later became normal. 2 patients had slightly raised alanine-aminotransferase values before treatment which became normal during therapy. Even with this large dose of testosterone liver function appeared to remain normal. It is suggested that this form of therapy is safe and convenient.
