Hyperglycemic choreaballism: A rare syndrome of acute dyskinesias in the adult population

Abstract Hemiballismus–hemichorea is a rare complication of nonketotic hyperglycemia. Neuroimaging in patients with this syndrome show characteristic findings with hyperintensity in basal ganglia. We present case of a 65 year old female showing classic clinical and radiographic feature of this syndrome. We aim to illustrate the importance of prompt diagnosis of this disorder and treatment of hyperglycemia to achieve a favorable prognosis and prevent adverse outcomes.
