Motivating students to read is a major goal for teachers. A national poll of the NRRC reported this trend, and we share the same belief. The purpose of our project was to increase motivation for reading by involving students in real-world problems using the Concept-Oriented Reading Instruction approach (CORI). We wanted students to experience literacy as a natural means of exploring the world around them. We aspired to help students to choose and use books frequently and wisely to fulfill their interests and share their understandings. Our orientation was based on the
