Electroantennogram Response of Female Moth of Retinia cristata to Volatile Terpenes from Needles of Pinus kesiya var.langbianensis
2009
[Objective] The purpose was to study the effect of volatile terpenes from needles of Pinus kesiya var.langbianensis to oviposition behavior of Retinia cristata.[Method] Whether the oviposition behavior of Retinia cristata was influenced by Pinus kesiya var.langbianensis odour was validated in room, and the electroantennogram experiment was made.[Result]The results indicated that normal moths deposited much more eggs on fresh pine needles than on withered needles;however, antennectomized moths did not exhibit any selectivity.Electroantennogram(EAG) study showed that the female moths had stated response to main compositions of needle volatile of α-pinene,β-pinene,myrcene,limonene and βphellandrene,β-phellandrene elicited the largest EAG response, and limonene was secondly.[Conclusion]Taking into account the fact that there is more β-phellandrene and limonene in volatile of fresh needles than that of withered needles, the two compounds are speculated as the primary oviposition stimulants.
