The interpretation of a group of Saxon pits in Southampton

Abstract Environmental material from waterlogged pits on a Saxon site in Southampton is examined and interpretation attempted. It is suggested that the material largely represents waste from a butcher's yard, although the lack of associated structural evidence makes interpretation difficult.
