Parametric optimization of viscoelastic dampers based on orthogonal design

The energy storage capacity of viscoelastic dampers is influenced by shear modulus,shear loss modulus,shear area viscoelastic layer thickness and other parameters.In the paper the modern vibration control theory and the orthogonal design are applied togather to investigate the effect of the damping control,the maximum displacement and acceleration of the roof points of the struclures are adopted as evaluation indices,the dynamical respsonses of a five-story frame structure in the level of different parameters are simulated,and the contribution of various parameters is obtained for the structural vibration control.The results show that the viscoelastic dampers can effectively control the earthquake response of the frame structure.Its displacement peak can be attenuated about 90.8%,peak acceleration can be attenuated about 63.8% when the suitable material parameters are selected.
