Synthesis of the First Poly(pyrazolyl)borate Complex of Germanium(II): Solid State Structure of [HB(3,5-Me(2)pz)(3)Ge]I.(1)/(2)CH(2)Cl(2).

The reaction of K[HB(3,5-Me2pz)3] and GeCl2(dioxane) in THF solution yields the ionic complex [HB(3,5-Me2pz)3Ge]Cl. Metathesis with NaI yields [HB(3,5-Me2pz)3Ge]I. The solid state structure of [HB(3,5-Me2pz)3Ge]I·1/2CH2Cl2 shows well-separated, three-coordinate, germanium-based cations and iodide anions. The cation [HB(3,5-Me2pz)3Ge]+ represents the first stable germanium poly(pyrazolyl)borate complex and the first poly(pyrazolyl)borate complex of germanium(II).
