Surface engineering of microporous polypropylene membranes

2008
Surface engineering of microporous polypropylene membranes(MPPMs) embraces a series of studies. It mainly includes the exploitation of membrane processes focusing on the surface properties of MPPMs,the establishment and optimization of surface modification and functionalization strategies for MPPMs,the characterization of surface structure, and the association of surface structure with separation performance. The purpose of surface engineering is to thoroughly understand the surface characteristics of MPPMs and then broaden their application fields. In this review,a brief introduction of theoretical research is firstly given, which is on the mass transfer behavior of gas-liquid membrane contactor based on the surface hydrophobicity of MPPMs.Subsequently, recent development in the hydrophilization to improve antifouling properties, the biomimetic modification, and the biological functionalization for the surfaces of MPPMs are summarized.
