Among the clinical imaging modalities,magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) offers a unique combi-nation of advantages including the recording of anatomicaland contrast-enhanced images with a high spatial resolution,while avoiding the use of ionizing radiation. The use of MRIfor imaging sparse molecular epitopes present on diseasedcells is hampered by its low sensitivity, which can potentiallybe overcome with new contrast-amplifying nanocarriers.
