Zusammenfassung Zahlreiche Autoren haben betont, das, evolutionary Arten' objektive Einheiten im Evolutionsprozes seien. Sie haben Artkonzepte formuliert, die solche Einheiten beschreiben and die als die Basis fur die Identifikation konkreter evolutionarer Arten angesehen werden. Die verschiedenen Artkonzepte konnen jedoch in drei verschiedene Gruppen eingeteilt werden, je nachdem welche Betonung sie legen auf 1. Amransformation, 2. Aufspaltung von Arten and 3. Abzweigen neuer Arten. Es wird gefolgert a. das keines der vorgeschlagenen Konzepte objektive Kriterien fur die Diagnose evolutionarer Arten liefert, and b. das der Fossilbericht praktisch nie fur die direkte Anwendung von Artabgrenzungskriterien ausreicht. Summary Species-delimination and the concept of the evolutionary species in Palaeontology Several authors have claimed that ‘evolutionary species’ are objective entities in the evolutionary process. They have formulated species concepts which describe such entities and which are seen as the basis for the identification of concrete evolutionary species. However, the different species concepts can be grouped into three different classes according to the different emphasis they put on: 1. species trans-formation, 2. splitting of species and 3. branching-off of new species. It is concluded: a. none of the proposed concepts leads to objective criteria for the diagnosis of evolutionary species and b. the fossil record is almost nowhere sufficient for the direct application of species-delimiting criteria.
