INTEGRATED DESIGN-BUILD DELIVERY PROVIDES SOLUTIONS TO COMPLEX COLLECTION SYSTEM CHALLENGES

Charleston Water System (Charleston, South Carolina) is in the process of implementing improvements to the sanitary sewer collection system in the Red Top service area using the Design-Build delivery method. The CDM Smith led Design-Build team has completed the design phase of the improvements and successfully negotiated a Guaranteed Maximum Price (GMP) with Charleston Water System. The team began the construction phase in the spring of 2013. The Red Top collection system project features several complex design and construction challenges including deep sewer installation in narrow, and often swampy, construction easements.
