The Smithwick gastrointestinal clamp
1962
Abstract A closed (“aseptic”) technic for intestinal anastomosis is described, utilizing an instrument especially designed for this purpose. If used properly, it is simple, safe, applicable to all portions of the gastrointestinal tract, and relatively aseptic. It appears to have distinct advantages over other closed and open technics for intestinal anastomosis in common use.
