Lengthening of lower eyelid retractor with sclera graft to treatment of the lower eyelid retraction in patients with thyroid associated ophthalmopathy

Objective To evaluate the clinical effect of lengthening of lower eyelid retractor with sclera graft to treat the lower eyelid retraction in patients with thyroid associated ophthalmopathy.Methods Fifteen patients (25 eyelids) with inactive thyroid associated ophthalmopathy were recruited.All patients who had a typical manifestation of lower eyelid retraction had been treated with implantation of sclera graft to lengthen lower eyelid retractor.Results All patients had subjective improvement in appearance and symptom.All patients' lower eyelid retraction was obviously corrected.Conclusions Lengthening of lower eyelid retractor with sclera graft is effective in correcting lower eyelid retraction.
