Novel Water-Born Anticorrosive Paints Based on Modified Nanocarbon (NC)

2021
Nanocarbon (NC) stable aqueous dispersion has been prepared using carbon black CB as a precursor in presence of dodecylbenzene sulfonic acid DBSA as surfactant under high shearing effect homogenizer. The morphological structure of the formed NC has been elucidated via TEM analysis. FT-IR spectra, as well as particle size distribution, have been also measured. The prepared NC of different weight percent (wt.%) has been incorporated into ecofriendly anticorrosive water-born paint formulations to protect carbon steel from corrosion. The painted metal panels have been tested for a degree of rusting and blistering by ASTMD. The physicomechanical properties of the coated panels have been also investigated. The effect of the prepared NC in enhancing corrosion protection efficiency of the painted panels has been confirmed by potentiodynamic polarization and electrochemical impedance measurements. The achieved results revealed that as the NC wt.% increases in the paint formulation as the inhibition efficiency IE% increases till reach a maximum at 6% NC and then decrease again at 9% NC. Maximum inhibition efficiency IE% up to 98.8% was obtained. As far as we know, these extraordinary anti-corrosion properties for the prepared water-born anticorrosive paint formulations have not been reported yet in the open literature.
