Chemical and physical stability of MgO with superconductors

1999
Chemical and physical compatibility of MgO with (LBCCO) high- superconductors have been studied by x-ray diffractometry and magnetic measurements on composites containing 0-100 vol% of MgO component. X-ray diffractometry studies carried out on composite show that MgO is chemically non-reactive with LBCCO superconductors even up to 80 vol% addition of MgO and severe heat treatment at for 30 h. Lattice matching between MgO and unit cells is fairly well (lattice mismatch ). Magnetization measurements carried out on composite show that no deleterious effect on the superconducting properties of is caused by MgO addition. Thus we infer that MgO is chemically and physically compatible with superconductors and MgO substrates could be used for the fabrication of high- LBCCO superconducting films.
