Chronic granulomatous disease (CGD) is the disorder that occurs when phagocytes are deficient in respiratory burst oxidase activity. Because of this deficiency, phagocytes from patients with CGD are unable to manufacture microbicidal oxidants. It is not surprising, then, that the major clinical problem in these patients is infection
