Stopping power and integral characteristics of real and model plasmas

2000
The method-of-moments dielectric function is proposed to be employed for the strongly coupled plasmas stopping power studies. Comparative predictions are made on the polarizational energy loss of hydrogen model plasmas simulated with an effective potential. A new sum rule for the plasma heavy ions stopping power projectile velocity distribution is established to be related to the dielectric permeability wavenumber first moment, and is estimated within and beyond the random-phase approximation. This permits for a simple interpretation of the stopping power data. The low-and high-velocity asymptotic forms for the stopping power are analyzed to complement the experimental data.
