Urethroplasty for Hypospadias

1980
Hypospadias is a developmental anomaly of the penis and urethra in which the uretral meatus is situated on the ventral aspect of the penis at any point from the glans to the perineum. Meatal stenosis is also commonly present. In most cases, the corpus spongiosum distal to the meatus, along with the dartos and Buck’s fascia, is replaced by a tough fibrous band which bends the penis ventrally. The curvature is called chordee. During erection, the chordee becomes more severe, making sexual intercourse difficult or impossible. The prepuce is also deficient ventrally and forms a dorsal hood over the glans. Incontinence is never a problem.
