Control of Flow Separation on a Wing Profile Using PIV Measurements and POD Analysis

2008
The purpose of this paper is to study experimentally the active control of separation on an ONERA D airfoil using micro-actuators. The configuration is a massively separated flow on the airfoil corresponding to a stalled case at R e =0.5 × 106 and α = 16° and the control is performed using continuous blowing microjets. Using PIV measurements and a post-processing based on POD, the main characteristics of the control are highlighted, leading to the developement of a MEMS prototype based on synthetic blowing.
