CONCEPCIONES ACERCA DEL LIDERAZGO DE ENFERMERIA.

2006
Descriptive research that allowed to identify the conceptions of the teachers of nursing school at University Pontificia Bolivariana regarding nursing leadership. By means of a survey aimed at all of the teachers hired in 2004, conceptions related with the nature of the leadership were identified; characteristics of the leader; expected behaviors and situational factors that influence it. Most of them conceived leadership as a set of attributes, not as a process of influence; of innate and acquired nature; with a predominant attitude component. Regarding attitudes and values they expect: responsibility, integrity and commitment; in abilities: effective communication, team work and management skills; in knowledge: related to the task. They hope that the leader has the clear objetives, promotes team work and acts coherently. The leader is expected to develop actions related to the duty and persons. A strong conception favoring the practice of defying the process was not identified. As for leadership styles they give priority to participative style. The influence of situational factors is admitted but these do not determine the leadership style to be taken into. One might conclude that it is important to deepen this field at a conceptual level and develop an educational coherent project in this respect.
