Proceedings: Effects of coal quality on power plants -- Third international conference

1993
EPRI organized and sponsored a third international conference entitled ``Effects of Coal Quality on Power Plants`` which was held August 25--27, 1992 in San Diego, CA. More than 150 participants from six countries representing utilities, coal suppliers, equipment manufacturers, research organizations, contractors, and consultants attended the three day conference. This conference continues to have as its major objective to review, document, and transfer technology on the most recent developments in the understanding and prediction of coal quality effects on power plants. Based on the input from the participants at the St. Louis meeting (1990), this conference was expanded to include sessions on coal handling, coal preparation (including grinding) and coal blending. The participation of those developing various technologies and those who ultimately use these technologies offers a unique format for maintaining a direct focus on the important issues regarding coal quality effects on power plants. The plenary session included two keynote addresses, one from an eastern coal producer and one from a western coal producer. Each speaker discussed the topic of coal quality as seen from his perspective. These presentations were very insightful, particularly in light of the Clean Air Act Amendments. They also provided an excellent overview for themore » remaining sessions of the conference: Coal Handling and Alternative Interests; Advancements in Coal Combustion Diagnostics; Advancements in Coal Quality Issues; Coal Quality Correlations and Predictive Models; Coal Quality Effects on Mineral Matter; Utility Experiences; Blending Experiences. More than 35 presentations were made during the seven sessions. Individual papers have been entered separately.« less
