Radiation-Chemical Synthesis of Perfluorinated Tetrafluoroethylene Telomers

2021
The kinetics of radiation-initiated telomerization of tetrafluoroethylene in perfluoromethylcyclohexane and perfluoro-1,3-dimethylcyclohexane has been studied, and new perfluorinated telomers of tetrafluoroethylene have been obtained. A detailed study of IR absorption spectra of these telomers confirms the inclusion of fragments of solvent molecules in the composition of the resulting perfluorinated telomers, the absence of double C=C bonds in them, and their more amorphous structure. Analysis of the differences between the IR spectra of the telomers and polytetrafluoroethylene has also suggested that these telomers can be used to create superhydrophobic coatings.
