Friction and Wear Behaviors of Al_2O_3 Matrix Composites under Dry Sliding Condition

The friction and wear properties of three kinds of Al2O3 matrix composites strengthened by SiC,Ti(CN) and ZrO2 particles were investigated using a pin-on-disk tribometer.SEM was used to observe the friction morphology of the ceramic surface.Under this experiment conditions additives had a profound effect on the wear resistance of the composites.The sequence of wear resistance was Al2O3/ZrO2Al2O3/SiCAl2O3/Ti(CN).Fatigue wear and brittle fracture were the predominant wear mechanisms for Al2O3/SiC.The wear mechanism of Al2O3/ZrO2 and Al2O3/Ti(CN) was abrasive wear.
