NEXUS project: exploring profitable, sustainable livestock businesses in an increasingly variable climate - milestone report 5

2021
Future climate change is expected to increase temperature, increase rainfall variability and increase the frequencies of extreme climatic events. Here, we modelled the impacts of four future climate realisations (two scenarios for each of 2030 and 2050) on pasture and livestock productivity for two livestock farms, one in the cooler wetter zone of north-western Tasmania and the other in the relatively low rainfall zone in the Midlands. Through discussions with SALRC and a regional reference group containing a number of farming and industry representatives, we identified a high priority list for modelling future climate change adaptations for the two livestock farms. We also identified the human and social capacities required to implement such adaptations in the face of a changing climate.
