Some haematological investigations on Oreochromis niloticus (Trewavas) following exposure to Thiamethoxam

2011
The effect of sublethal concentrations of Thiamethoxam pesticides on a freshwater fish, Oreochromis niloticus (Trewavas), has been studied. Evaluation of haematological parameters such as haemoglobin, red blood cell count and leucocyte count showed a significant relation with the doses of Thiamethoxam used in the experiment. The present study also revealed that this insecticide caused haematological disturbance, which might lead to impairment of fish ability to combat diseases and ultimately reduce the chances of survival.
