In methyl (lipotrope or choline) deficiency, as lipid accumulates the liver loses its mahogany-brown color and becomes beige or yellowish. The weight of the liver is reduced, and it is buoyant when immersed in aqueous solution. The cut surface is friable and oily in texture, and increased fibrous connective tissue gives the surface of the liver a roughened appearance, dividing the parenchyma into grossly visible lobules or sublobules of various size (Fig. 112).
