The high-temperature creep of zirconium carbide

1972
1. In the temperature range 2450–2810°K and the stress range 0.35–1.75 kg/mm2, three stages of creep are observed, corresponding to transient, steady state, and accelerated creep, which are typical of metals. 2. The deformation of ZrC ends in brittle fracture with crack formation in the region of the fracture. 3. The creep of ZrC is determined under these conditions by diffusion processes. 4. The activation energy of the process that controls the creep of ZrC is 116±18 kcal/mole.
