Abstract 12310: Benefits of Early Co-administration of Beta-blockers and Ivabradine in Patients Hospitalized Due to Worsening Heart Failure: Insights From a Prospective Pragmatic Study Within the Optimize Heart Failure Care Program

2017
Introduction: Few trials have demonstrated an improvement in systolic function in patients hospitalized with heart failure (HF) after early co-administration of beta-blockers (BBs) and ivabradine. However, this strategy's effect on the rate of death and re-hospitalizations is unknown. This study aimed to analyze the ability of in-hospital co-administration of beta-blockers (BBs) and ivabradine versus BBs alone to reduce the rate of death and re-hospitalizations in patients hospitalized due to worsening HF. Methods: This study was part of an international multicenter Optimize Heart Failure Care Program and included patients with sinus rhythm hospitalized due to worsening HF. Data on death and re-hospitalizations were collected for each patient over 12 months starting from the date of hospitalization. Physicians participating in the program were free to choose the strategy of co-administration of BBs and ivabradine (Group 1) or therapy with BBs alone (Group 2). Results: Overall, the study included 414 patie...
