Mechanization of the strapping of rolled products

In the sheet mills of several plants, in particular, at Magnitogorsk Combine and Zaporozhstal' Plant, strapping machines designed by the Planning and Design Technological Institute in Dnepropetrovsk are used. Bundles of sheets are strapped with metal strapping the ends of which are joined by electric welding. At the Magnitogorsk Metallurgical Combine such a machine is mounted in the line for transverse cutting of the strip and at the Zaporozhstal' Plant in the line for banding the coils. However, to install such machines requires significant space in the finishing areas. For example, the ~lektrostal' Heavy Machinery Plant machine without its auxiliary equipment for delivering and removing the rolled product occupies about 30 m 2 and the Planning and Design Technological Institute machine with the delivery and exit roller conveyors about I00 m 2. These machines may be recommended only for existing mills and those under construction with finishing areas with considerable space. Abroad "Cyclone" (West Germany) and "Titan" and "Signode" (USA) moveable pneumatic equipment is widely used for equipping rolling mills with limited space in the finishing areas.
