Complexation of the divalent lead cation with cesium ionophore II: an extraction and DFT study

On the basis of extraction experiments in the two-phase water/nitrobenzene system and γ-activity measurements, we determined the very high stability constant of the cesium ionophore II–Pb2+ cationic complex dissolved in nitrobenzene saturated with water. Using quantum mechanical DFT calculations, the most probable structure of this complex species was derived.
