Rapid detection of Shiga Toxin type II by lateral flow immunochromatography test strips of colorimetry and fluorimetry

2019
In this work, we reported the detailed fabrication processes of two types of lateral flow immunochromatographic test strips (LFITS) by using colloidal gold gel and fluorescent CdTe quantum dots (QDs) as signal labels, respectively, to develop a point-of-care assay for Shiga toxin type II (STX2). Under optimal conditions, the corresponding visual detection limits were 25 ng/mL and 5 ng/mL, respectively. The test results of gold based LFITS can be recognized directly by the naked eyes, whereas the visualized results of CdTe QDs based LFITS can be observed by aid of UV lamp. Both assays showed good specificity and stablility. The inexpensive LFITS were promising for the rapid clinical detection of STX2.
