Kalp damar cerrahisi kliniğinde geçici hemodiyaliz kateter uygulamalari- tek merkez deneyimi Temporary hemodialysis catheter applications in the cardiovascular surgery clinic- a single-center experience

2015
Purpose : Vascular access is most important issue for patients on hemodialysis. Temporary hemodialysis catheters are used for patients with acute renal failure who need urgent hemodialysis and patients on maintenance hemodialysis who have lost their permanent access function. In the present study, we aimed to present early and late period complications of placement of temporary hemodialysis catheters to patients with acute and chronic renal failure in our clinic. Material and Methods: The 348 patients who needed urgent hemodialysis or had dysfunction of the current vascular access while on chronic hemodialysis program were implanted a catheter by the cardiovascular surgeons in our clinic between November 2012 and November 2015 were included in this retrospective observational study. The patients were screened for their age, sex, catheter insertion site, catheter related early and late period complications. Results: The mean age of the patients was 55,4±14,1 years. 656 temporary hemodialysis catheters were performed to 348 patients . 514 catheters were applied to the internal jugular vein (396 to the right, 118 to the left vein), 136 catheters were applied to the femoral vein (94 to the right, 42 to the left vein) and 6 catheters were implanted to the subclavian veins (5 to the right, 1 to the left vein). Puncture of the artery occurred in 27 patients (4 %) during the procedure, and 3 of these patients (0,3%) had a subcutaneous hematoma. The most commonly seen complication was catheter dysfunction.
