The Sustainability of Biodiversity

2019
The protection and conservation of habitats for the biological diversity is a vital part of sustainable forest management. Loss of forest and increasing fragmentation of the remaining forest is leading to extinction of many species. The distribution of many species is dependent on the availability of habitat and larger animal species with an extensive home range cannot survive in a highly fragmented forest landscape. Migration corridors need to be established in areas where the forest is fragmented and all forest management units should undertake a baseline biodiversity survey in order to monitor changes over time.
